The other day someone suggested a sex-party fortress simultaneously controlled by Elves and Goblins. It would be a vertical mirror image, with a huge white stone tower rising above ground for the Elves and a deep pit sunken beneath it for the Goblins. Each would specialize in sexual kinks fitting to their nature, e.g. Goblins would have S&M and Elves would have erotic massage.

Every once in a while some sexually-deviant woman of one race cross over to indulge in the fantasies and fetishes more suited to the other.

Naughty Elven lasses descend into the depths to get tied up, whipped, blindfolded, and ravaged with huge dildos or by rough Goblin men who are clad in leather everywhere but where it matters.
And shy, timid Goblin girls climb into the tower to have barely-dressed bedroom pillow fights with the Elves, blushing nervously as they play increasingly-naughty games of Truth-or-Dare.

Try to ignore the mental image of a normally-depraved gobby girl tittering like a schoolgirl and blushing shyly in a white room with fluffy pillows and pink bedspread while she and a bunch of Elves whisper dirty things to each other and dare each other to get progressively more naked. You can still have some fun activities, you just have to be creative.

Example:
Build a pit surrounded with raised seating and a meeting area, like a colosseum. Turn the pit into a training room for your recruits.
Flood and drain a pit, to make it muddy.
Put two of your femme-gobs in the pit, have them wrestle each other.
You now have spectated mud-wrestling in your fortress.
Bonus: Sometimes when wrestling, recruits will pull clothes off each other.

Actually, it does play differently.

Small differences:
Nomenclature and society is different. Goblins use a different language, their names are different, they have different names for workshops and jobs, and so on. Goblins worship a Demon. Goblin personalities are different: most are quick to anger and unmoved to pity. Their ethics are different too: they'll torture for fun.
Goblins are way more likely to use certain types of decorations, ESPECIALLY putting menacing spikes all over everything. They also enjoy bone armor.

Big differences:
Goblins don't need alcohol to function (but they WILL drink it),with the exception of individual goblins who are alcoholic. Also, they don't get cavesickness.
Goblins use evil plants, cave animals, and evil animals, which means different pets and so on.
Goblins are osteovorous omnivores, which means they'll eat just about anything, INCLUDING bone. This, combined with their low metabolism, means that a little food lasts a LOT longer, especially if it yields bone. This, along with no dependency on booze is useful because...
Goblins can't farm. At all. It's just not their way. So turn to fishing, hunting, butchering.

But even with Goblins, love can still bloom.

A few more things I forgot to mention:
* You generally won't have babies getting snatched.
* You'll generally only trade with local Goblin tribes, so don't expect much in the way of trade goods, and no liason.
* Goblins learn swimming at a very fast rate.
* Goblins are slightly tougher than most Dwarves.
* Goblins make really good fishermen.
* Goblins love fighting, and never complain about combat or being drafted.

Yes, they can still gather plants and brew that. But remember, they don't need alcohol, so you can just brew and cook the results if you like. Of course, some are alcoholic or would simply enjoy some booze as a treat, so you certainly don't have to avoid it either.

Goblins are great fishermen. I had a brook and a goblin fisherman (just "fisherman", not great or skilled or anything like that) and just let him fish at the riverside. He generated more food than I knew what to do with, easily producing enough food in one season to feed himself and 20 other goblins for the whole year. I had to keep turning the fishing areas off so he'd stop crowding the stockpiles.
It's even better since they'll eat leftover bones, making many meals twice as lasting.

The new features do take some getting used to, but if you could handle the original, you'll do fine with this. Just take some time to learn newer features like activity zones, constructions, and so on and you'll do completely fine.
