I have. The guys who couldn't keep their troops were also depicted violating Confucian or Taoist ethics, with betrayal as an inevitable punishment/consequence. A classic Chinese trait of a good leader is the ability to hold loyalty without over-relying on any one method of doing so. You make your troops fear, love, respect, and worship you such that betrayal is an impossible thought.

Most talk of Azula being mentally ill (or at least really, really maladjusted) doesn't stem from her military actions, which are pretty reasonable as such things go -- she's not a war criminal or anything like that. seems to me that Azula has a good case of Antisocial personsality disorder. And because of just how old she is, it would seem to me that unless she would get some intensive mental care, she will probably be the way she is for the rest of her life.

The two go hand and hand more often then not. But your wrong.

The show is full of people with sense of something greater then themselves. Family , Friends , Community, Justice, The "Balance", The spirits, The Fire nation, The water Tribe, the Earth Kingdom, The Air nomads. Every Character in the show has something that they would put before their own needs
every one besides Azula and Ozai. Their is a reason people equate psychopathic behavior with "evil". ether one of these two would lay waste to the world if they for one moment thought it would be to their advantage.

.1. Failure to conform to social norms with respect to lawful behaviors as indicated by repeatedly performing acts that are grounds for arrest;
Yep, although being a princess will do that. Noticeably, she happily overthrew an entire country.
>2. Deceitfulness, as indicated by repeatedly lying, use of aliases, or conning others for personal profit or pleasure;
I'd say her peculiar brand of manipulation via veiled threats (such as when she recruited Ty Lee) is arguably worse.

If the Sozin's Comet book is anything to go by...but not really, no.

Once again, let's return to her recruiting Ty Lee, or when she refused to trade Mai's brother's life for Bumi.

Not really.

She's a princess. Hell, she's a warrior princess. On the Beach episode she acted more socially acceptable when talking to normals than Zuko.

>2. Deceitfulness, as indicated by repeatedly lying, use of aliases, or conning others for personal profit or pleasure;

2) She's a leader. Her cunning is a good thing for her country. She took over Ba Sing Se without bloodshed, how is that not a good thing for the Fire nation?

>3. Impulsivity or failure to plan ahead;

3) Not like her at all

4. Irritability and aggressiveness, as indicated by repeated physical fights or assaults;

4) She's a Soldier tasked with capturing the Avatar. It's what she does constantly. Of course she's going to be more aggressive than the regular folk. But she wasn't anymore aggresive than Zuko in "The Beach"

>5. Reckless disregard for safety of self or others;

5) Yet Again, soldier, military officer tasked with capturing the greatest enemy the Fire naton has ever known.

>6. Consistent irresponsibility, as indicated by repeated failure to sustain consistent work behavior or honor financial obligations;

6) That's obviously not her.

>7. Lack of remorse, as indicated by being indifferent to or rationalizing having hurt, mistreated, or stolen from another.

Yeah because the Fire nation was destitute before the war started.

sarcasm /

so what your saying is that 100 years of war, untold number of loyal fire nation citizens dead. (not to mention the genocide of an entire race). the lose of the true methods of fire bending. The dragons hunted into extinction. All of that was worth it just so the fire nation could occupy more territory and to satisfy the royal family greed for more power and influence.

The need of the fire nation stopped being served along time ago. The only thing being srived now are the wants of Ozia and Azula.
>> Shnitzel !07vf9OgAW6 07/12/08(Sat)18:54 No.5000570
I'm gonna do a crazy thing and compare Azula to Hitler. Bear with me now.

Hitler rose to rule a country that he wasnt even born in. He conquered a good portion of Europe, while doing so convincing a lot of people to follow him and help him in his effort. Sure, the guy was sick and there are not enough adjectives in any language to describe the kind of heartless guy he was. But he was a leader, and a damn good one at that.

Azula may be "Crazy", but she is a intelligent skilled fire nation leader/general whatever you want to call it. Just because what she's doing can be considered wrong and immoral, does not take away from the fact that she is a very good leader of war. It's been proven in the beach episode that she really doesn't care about her mother, and all the cruel doing to the avatar group is all because they are trying to stop her nation from global dominance. There are 2 sides to every war, and you cant just look at it from the morally right side. If I were azula I'd make damn sure that the avatar and his pals got a most excruciating death, simply because the war could have been over by the end of season 2 if not for them. So she has an eccentric view of life and things and how the way things work, doesnt make her a nutjob, just makes her heartless, cold, and someone you wouldnt want to have on their badside.

Yes because those were all the fault of Ozai's and Azula's right? It couldn't be that past emperors hunted dragons, it couldn't be that Iroh, Ozai's OLDER brother was the LAST one to hunt the dragons, no of course not. And Of course it was Ozai and Azula who committed genocide on the Air nation, yes it must've been there fault because their anscestors did it. And It sure wasn't Azula who conqurered the Earth Nation in a bloodless coup, no Iroh was in the right when he charged head on for the city and besegied it for years.

All Ozai and Azula are doing is carrying on the will of past emperors, to finally spread the culture superiorty of the Fire Nation to other lands and finally conquer the Earth Kingdom. They love there country because the country is there's and will do anything to protect it.

>Yeah because the Fire nation was destitute before the war started.

Ruthless - definitely, mad - hell no. Hitler ordered a lot of inhumane things to be done in his time but none of them are illogical or void of reason.
