Ethan's time machine activated, and Future Ethan captured Ethan and brought him to a post-apocalyptic future. Turns out that Future Ethan had accidentally caused the apocalypse by triggering Zeke somehow, making him stage a global robot uprising. Ethan, now aware of what he needs to do to change the future, wishes to return to the present. But Ethan gets captured by anti-robot resistance members (who believe Ethan/Future Ethan to be wholly responsible for the apocalypse) and Future Ethan, unable to free Ethan from the trap he's in, decides to go back in time himself and replace Ethan in the present. Ethan is captured and is allowed to escape in order to let the resistance track him. Ethan finds Future Ethan preparing the time machine, they argue for a bit, and Future Ethan allows Ethan to be the one to go back in time. Just then, a resistance member catches up and finds the two Ethans. A gunfight ensues - the resistance member is shot by Future Ethan, but the resistance member shoots the time machine, causing the time-rift to grow uncontrolled. To prevent total annihilation of the universe, Future Ethan decides to manually deactivate the machine to allow Ethan to repair it, knowing it'd kill him. However, the mortally-wounded resistance member kills Future Ethan, leaving Ethan to sacrifice his life to save the universe.
