Star Fox is an elite team of mercenaries called upon in times of crisis to protect the Lylat System. No exploration.

Fox is very determined and no-nonsense, but with a slight sense of naivete.

Falco is pretty much what you put, but his anti-social attitude is all for show: deep down he treasures his friends.

Slippy and Peppy are pretty much dead-on, though Peppy doesn't really complain much.

Star Wolf are rival mercenares who are more willing to commit crimes if the payment is high enough.

Several cartoons have male-only protagonists (with female back-up characters). The Real Ghostbusters, SWAT Kats, Transformers (G1), and Batman: TAS come to mind.

I don't think we need to worry about it becoming a "homo-fest." And you can still do romance between characters without concern for "the furries".

Leon is a chameleon, look up "cold blooded killer" in the dictionary, and you'll see his picture somewhere.

Starfox was NEVER an iconic pillar for Nintendo. It was always a B rated type of franchise which now has sunk even lower. Don't bring up the 3D in the SNES game, Starfox wasn't the only one doing it at the time.
