I'd better cast my two stones as well. Or something.
I. World. (Named “Gaea” for lack of a better name)
An apocalyptic event has all but destroyed an enormous, prospering land, sending it into a state of dystopia. A severe impact of this kind has somehow breathed a sort of magical life back into the earth. Wrecked cities covered up by vines, trees, and grass stand monument to the life which once was. The government of the old world has vanished. Those who survived the attack learned to cope with their surroundings, forming factions to support each other. These factions will often engage in warfare with each other for various reasons, under a strict self-supported moral code which all factions follow. However, organic-robotic combinations (shortened down to Orcs, lol) have been showing up all over the land, led by a mysterious figure. These new inhabitants are intent on harming the citizens of the new world without reason, and are a severe threat to the continuation of the human race.
II. Cast.
The Ganis Clan, a five-member faction situated within an overgrown city. Their headquarters is a large tilting building, rife with foliage. Grass even grows on the floors inside the building. The clan is prospering, and their greatest interests now are in ridding their city of the increasing population of Orcs. When they are separated, they communicate via comlinks which are attached to their ears and allow easy vocal transfer with no interactivity.
Aro - The main character, wields a double-edged sword. He is a shy man, but is very courageous and a quick thinker. He is adept at climbing and jumping, which makes him the reconnaissance expert of the group. In addition, he can shoot beams of light from the palms of his hands.
Lyra - An evil-looking woman with a good heart, Lyra has always preferred crawling on both hands and feet to regular walking. Despite this, she remains very nimble. When in battle, she controls the power of water; issuing jets of water from her hands and mouth.
Rodin - A very contemplative man made entirely out of stone. He is the leader of the group because of his level head. He does not wield weapons, but instead, he can change the composition of his body to fit the circumstances. The strength behind his solid self makes him the “tank”, so to speak.
Emma - A lovely woman with excellent aim. She wields a large sniper rifle, which she rarely misses her mark with. When confronted with enemies and the sniper rifle is disadvantageous, Emma sometimes uses wind-based magic to battle foes.
Author - A pale man with no eyes, Author has some way of detecting everything in the surroundings notwithstanding. He has a very inventive mind, and is always building various devices or machines, combining the powers of human technology and magic. He mainly builds these devices to increase the efficiency of his team. In battle, he carries a carbine, but he mostly relies on his fire magic.
The Orcs, a race of beings who are partially human and partially robot. Controlled from an unknown location by a force which is no doubt very powerful. Should the Orcs’ expeditions into the Ganis Clan’s territories fail, the said controlling force will no doubt appear itself. Seeing the increasing power of the Orcs, several factions have joined together under its flag in exchange for important military roles and insurance against attacks. Some of the most common Orc units follow:
Mite - These tiny Orc units are only dangerous in packs, upon which they can overwhelm even large targets. Even in packs, they cannot travel alone, for there are too many of them to be controlled easily. Each mite, with all of its legs splayed out, would be about the size of a dinner plate.
Brute - The weakest, most common Orc, the Brute stands at about 5 feet. Because of their weakness, Brutes are most always found in packs. A lone Brute can be defeated very easily.
Dead Head - This Orc unit gets its name because it is the only unit which does not still have an organic brain. Dead Heads are trusted with more powerful weaponry and sometimes supervise groups of Brutes. Dead Heads wear no helmets, for their artificial brain is not fragile as an organic brain is. Dead Heads vary in size, but the average one is about seven feet high.
Damask - A four-legged Orc unit (about ten feet tall, twenty long) hung with red cloth which resembles damask cloth. Four nozzles on the underside of its head allow the passage of highly flammable accelerants, which are lit on fire within the nozzle prior to ejection. Because it is very destructive, it is able to travel alone. The damask on its sides is coarse and easy to grapple onto.
Torus - The Torus stands at about 12 feet high. The singular shape of its torso is the reason for its name. The hole in the center of its chest allows for use of its electrical beam, which is a formidable weapon. Tori are commonly found leading groups of other Orcs. Its massive feet, each of them at least four feet long, can be a weapon as well as a hindrance.
Bagatelle - This Orc unit is the largest, but not the most dangerous (It is about thirty-five feet high at the shoulder, and about ninety feet long). Sent mainly to defend other troops, a hollow space inside the Bagatelle allows passenger travel. The Bagatelle gets its name from the cannon on its front, which fires large metallic balls. The cannon opening is about seven feet in diameter.
Premier - The highest-level Orc, these colossal beings stand at about twenty feet. They are definitely the most powerful and most cunning out of all the Orc units. However, they can easily be overwhelmed by a faction of well-trained members. Its intricate armor has many places in which a person could easily crouch and not be noticed by the moving Premier.
Sovereign - The nickname for the force controlling the Orcs. Rodin is the only one out of the group who has seen it, but he explained that it had the sun at its back and could not be described clearly. He did note that its silhouette indicated it was smaller than most of the units surrounding it.
A mysterious invalid known by “Bow” appears to the Ganis Clan on occasion, usually sitting and talking with them for quite some time about the Orcs and other factions. He is always coy about which affiliation he holds, and speaks in such a way that the clan agrees he is quite untrustworthy. However, only time will tell his actions.
III. Weapons.
To clarify:
Aro: Sword
Lyra: Knuckles
Rodin: Fists
Emma: Knives
Author: Carbine
ORCs: Melee weapons
Sovereign: Unknown
Bow: N/A.
The weapons used in this world are both projectile and missile weapons as well as melee weapons. Because of the adaptations of magical abilities in most humans who survived the cataclysm, a pistol would not necessarily put a person at a distinct advantage in a fight. However, the characters in the game have a certain advantage with one type of weapon which prevents them from switching to other types of weapon, with the exception of the Orcs, who can wield any weapon so long as they are strong enough to carry it. Weapons can be found in boxes, or just laying out, in the vast new land.
IV. Magic.
To clarify:
Aro: Light Magic
Lyra: Water Magic
Rodin: Earth Magic
Emma: Air Magic
Author: Fire Magic
Orcs: Varied.
Sovereign: Unknown.
Bow: Telepathy.
The magic in this world is mainly confined to one element, or any magic which could be related to that element. For example, Earth Magic would cover not only seismic movements, but also the growth of plants. Magic is a gift that cannot be learned or forgotten. Since it is a pretty powerful force, the most likely human to survive against enemies in the new land would be one with magic. Therefore, most humans alive have some sort of magical power. Magic is powerful, and taxes the body upon use. Something like a “Magic Points” system would be used to determine how taxing magic is to the body and how much it could be used. Should the magic points run out and the character keep using magic, the points would be subtracted from HP until the character dies from it.
A magical skill appropriate for a level could be unlocked, but only one skill can be unlocked per level. Each skill would be very weak upon first learning it, but could be augmented by receiving “Skill points” which would be gained after defeating certain enemies and gaining an amount of experience.
(I made it so that this game could be either a basic turn-based battle system, a tactical battle system, or even a highly interactive battle system, in which there are no turns and each character is free to roam about and attack the opponent)
