Would you like to do the underpants dance on it? Or maybe give it a little puff puff? Or you could just give it a good ol' beating with your sword.
What other game could you do this in but Dragon Warrior Quest 8? This game is without a doubt one of the best current-gen RPG available on the market. The good people over at level 5 have taken cell shading to the next level in creating a world that feels alive, everything is animated nicely, and stuff just looks good. Then you have a whole world to explore, none of this high road stuff from FF10 and 10-2, you see some place well you can walk there, or ride a great sabercat, or sail there. You can go just about any place. So far I've put about 60 hours onto this game, and I have not yet become tired of going over a hill and seeing rolling plains right up to the ocean.
Graphics aren't the only thing this game has going for it, as the story is very well constructed. While I've been able to figure out what's going to happen usually when they give me a bit of foreshadowing it's still been highly engrossing. It's also quite a bit darker than previous DW games I've played. The main bad guy has a thing for killing people, not just random NPC characters, but characters you get to know and feel for. You wont find any Sephiroth killing Aries sequences so those of you that are sensitive won't be crying this time. The story does chug along at a fairly relaxed pace which is nice cause it gives you time to go and just explore the huge world.
Voice Acting is also really good, everyone sounds British which is actually kinda cool, you got some guys that have fake Russian and Italian accents too, they sound kinda silly but still are better than some voice acting. King Trode and Yangus are probably the best voice acting talents I've heard in a game, and they're funny to boot.
Course the battle system's still the same tried and true turn based combat that's been around since the beginning of time, with the new tension skill, and the ability to scare enemies away thrown. Only thing I wish they'd done here is put in some kinda job class system like in DW7 and DW3, but oh well.
It's definitely a blast so far; it feels and plays just like an old school RPG but in full 3D, which is major bonus points in my book. So talk about this game or any other Dragon Quest/Warrior games you want to here.
