Well, A mere voting system could not work out for this tournament simply because it is not just an art contest. This is a battle of a myriad of characters each with a style of their own, needing to be seen.
And so, Fybertech has assembled a way to play that hopefully will be easy enough for the creators to figure out and will also involve the other members of Fybertech, which are not playing in the tournament.
The playing field will work in two parts: the Battle Plan and Voice of the People
THE BATTLE PLAN
Those playing in the game will have much more fun... as they can possibly control the fate of their characters.
For example, let us say that a battle involving a character created by Fyber is going to transpire within a week. A PM will be sent out to Fyber, detailing to him that it is time for him and his character to prepare for said battle. Within a week, Fyber has to send to us a Battle Plan detailing a minimum of 5 moves, a max of 10 moves his character may use and send them back to me. He may choose to add how Fyber would react in certain situations. Here is how the move system works.
BASIC RULES
1. Each player will be given five turns or "Moves." Each suggested move will go into effect simultaneously with the opponents move.
2. Each move consists of combining two of the character stats together. For example, Strength and IQ, Fighting and Stamina, etc.
3. Each stat can be used only TWICE within the five moves. Further, a move cannot use the same stat twice (i.e. - Strength and Strength).
4. The power of the move is figured out by the sum of the two stats (For example, if a move combines a level 4 strength and a level 2 IQ, the overall power will be 6).
5. Of the five moves, three will be offensive moves and two will be defensive moves.
6. A successful offensive move is a move whose points are greater than the opponents move (offensive or defensive). The amount of damage placed upon the loser of the round is found by the difference of the two move's powers. (i.e. If Player 1's move was 9 points and Player 2's move was 7 points, Player 2 loses 2 points.)
8. A successful defensive move, like an offensive move is determined by if its point value is greater than the opponent's attack.
9. If a defensive move is successful, the difference between the two moves will be subtracted from the total point value of the opponents next turn.
10. If in the case two defensive moves are played at the same time, both moves are negated.
11. The winner is decided by whichever opponent loses the least amount of points during the fight. BUT, if the Chronicler decides not to follow the battle in this manner to write it out that is fine.
12. If in the case of a tie (each opponent loses the same amount of points), both opponents will progress onto the next round.
12. The points deducted by a successful offense move will not affect the stats of the player whom the points were deducted from.
13. Moves can vary from match to match and are not expected to be repeated unless a character decides to reuse them. That said, a character can use five entirely new moves in each match just so long as those moves comply with the rules above.
A few other things to mention. First, if we do not hear back from a creator within a week of sending out the initial PM of the upcoming battle, they automatically forfeit the match. If they can't for whatever reason prepare their character's battle plan within a week, please contact me within said time and I'll try to find a replacement competitor.
Second, although there is no particular way we need you to send your battle plan, please make sure at least with each move you detail whether the move is offensive or defensive, and what two stats you are using. Also in the case of offensive moves, please also include what stats you want your opponents to have affected if your offensive move is successful.
Third, and although it should go without saying, please make sure you character's moves roughly correspond to the stats used. For example, if you are using the character's strength and fighting stats, they shouldn't be hurling lightning bolts.
If you add additional PMs, such as a move's name or a description, even better although not required.
VOICE OF THE PEOPLE
Although the overall outcome may or may not be decided by the masses but instead the fighters themselves, it doesn't however mean they have no say in the matches. Much like the old gladiator fights; the masses can still decide the fate of the losing fighter.
First, Members of Fybertech are invited to send their opinions on the matches. These opinions should preferably be based mostly on the character's background, their fighting style, and appearance. DO NOT SAY WHICH CHARACTER YOU WANT TO WIN, but rather your opinion on each character.
Second, in the same topic, please rate on a scale of 10, one being around "hate," ten being "absolutely adore/am in total awe of," rate both competing characters.
These submissions will be open for the first four days after the match is announced. After the first four days, we will tally the ratings of the loser of the match and reduce them into a percentage score. From there, a character's approval will decide the character's fate as such:
1 - 20% - Killed in Battle
21% - 40% - Critically injured / Dismembered in Battle, will not return
41% - 60% - Seriously Injured in Battle, will not return
61% - 80% - Forfeits / Admits defeat in battle, may or may not return
81% - 100% - Forfeits / Admits defeat in battle, will be asked to return.
Returning losing competitors will be placed into a separate category where they will compete amongst one another until one is found the victor and will return to fight the remaining winners.
TELLING THE TALE
We are planning on having Chroniclers for the matches, members of Fybertech which would be given the task of either writing out these matches in prose form or depicting them in artwork. If you are possibly interested in this project, please contact us ASAP.
So that is how it is for now... and hopefully will be once the tournament starts. If there any problems, concerns or questions, contact us.
We hope to be seeing you in the tournament!
