They kill other pests, corn emits pheremones(or something similar)whenever its being eaten by locusts or whatever that signals wasps to come kill the offending bugs. Wasps are the bouncers of the insect world, yes they are assholes, but they keep worse assholes out of the bar/club.

One time I was just sitting outside on a nice day watching a caterpillar crawl around.

I saw a wasp land on top of it. It bit the caterpillar's head until it stopped wriggling and then picked it up and flew away with it. This caterpillar was larger than the wasp as well.

I haven't tried to commune with nature since that day.

bees are pollinators. that's an extremely important job for nature. if all the bees disappear you can be damned sure that atleast 2/3rds of the worlds population will starve to death.
plus rumors say their venom can literally cure HIV.

Sure bees kill you but that's because you pissed them off. wasps and hornets would wreck the shit out of you just because they're assholes.plus they don't do jack shit they just exist.

give me one real reason I should hate bees.

You know how when a bee 'marks' you to have the hive he's a part of attack you? Wasps do the same thing but, other wasps follow the mark as well.

Ender's Game almost did it right, but I want to see more sci-fi that explores the implications of an intelligent hive race.

Imagine: the queen is just a baby factory. Individuals can be guided by pheromones, but since they can still make independent and intelligent decisions. But even though they can act independently, they don't actually possess individuality like humans do.

It's a neat thing to think about.

speaking of non-social insect races, I had the idea of a race of spider people who all live completely isolated from each other. They communicate with each other using super strong, super long webs that can transfer vibrations and information.

In essence, a race of hikkomoris who spend their days arguing on the web.

Well I guess the the area would become very busy with bees and it only takes some idiot kid to get stung before I'm held responsible for them.

Plus don't they get hostile if people go near their hive? I'd like to do my gardening without a beekeeper suit.

When a bee gets a little to much nectar, she was to rest so her stomach can digest some of it.
She just had a full tummy anon.

If you put it at a bit of a distance it would be fine, probably.
And fuck kids, they just tun off screaming before they touch bees. Bees are chill as fuck, if you get stung, it's your own damn fault.

Wasps also get more aggressive the bigger fuss you make. Wasps in my area usually go away if you wave at them a little with your hand.

IIRC Sword of the Stars had something cool with Hivers. They were acting as individuals and were governed by princesses and princes, there was one queen per hive and Hivers simply adored their queen.
Or something like that, my only experience is wth The Pit and what I've seen on /tg/.

They're ant people tough.

Because their faces are all wrong?
They have these strange pincers instead of mouths (or something even weirder), either giant segmented eyes or dead-looking dots, weird creepy scales and hair, various mandibles, antennae and other weird shit.
And they're hexapodal instead of quadru- or biped to boot.

Also, we're not used to see them this large, so when you look at a zoomed in photo, you're surprised.

>if all the bees disappear you can be damned sure that atleast 2/3rds of the worlds population will starve to death.

It's not thaaat bad. All cereals, corn and rice don't need any bees. Any root vegetable like carots neither. Many plants have more fruits if they get bees, but can do without them (tomatoes, potatoe plants afaik).

It's gonna be bad, but not that bad. Especially if some fat fucks stop eating that much meat.

It was supposed to be a series of stories about insect doing adult things; the bees would be either serving drinks or pole dancing in a honey bar and one day the africanized bee would be hired, scaring all the honey bees.
There was also a gay mantis who wasn't actually gay, just scared of a female eating him during sex
And yellowjacket who beat his girlfriend
But then I realized that a) there was a stupid webcomic with a similar premise before and b) I wouldn't know how to write this stuff, being very sheltered and all.

Did you know jumping spiders sometimes put water droplets on their heads as hats?

>Wanting disgusting wasp germs all over your food

You don't even know where those niggers have been.

And you don't have to be allergic to worry about stings, a woman in my city recently died from 15 wasp stings and she apparently wasn't allergic at all. Those fuckers are kill machines.

What was your living situation? Like, how big was your yard or were you in an apartment building?

Here's a guide on how to do it legally. Your neighbors don't have much say so long as you're within regulations.

http://modernfarmer.com/2013/05/dear-modern-farmer-how-do-i-legally-start-an-urban-bee-hive/

Beekeeping is a fantastic, low-cost/low-time-commitment hobby that you can even make money off of if you sell your honey and wax at farmer's markets.

Thanks for the info. We have gardens but they're pretty small, so it's likely that people will noticed an increase in bees flying around. They're certainly not going to like that during BBQs in summer,
